Bull Clothing ( Pty ) Ltd was started in 1998 by Charles Jonsson, although he has been involved in the workwear and clothing industry since 1981. We currently make a full range of men's and ladies workwear, casual, corporate, promotional and security garments for customers throughout Southern Africa, under our registered trade marks of "Bull" and "Jim West". Our customers include wholesalers, retailers, distributors, mines, listed companies, independents and many other various customers throughout Southern Africa.
We currently source about 74% of our purchases from BEE companies and use 14 BEE factories to manufacture our garments, of which 2 are owned by women. Furthermore, we have purchased over R 350 000 of clothing machines which have been loaned free to 2 BEE factories ( 1 women owned ) to assist with skills development and job creation. Bull Clothing carries a huge stock of made up garments and fabric.
Bull Workwear ( Pty ) Ltd, is our empowerment company, which operates in tandem with Bull Clothing ( Pty ) Ltd, but in which all of our "previously dis-advantaged employees" have been given 40 % equity, in accordance with their years of service, and from which they all derive benefit. This company makes use of the same supply chain as Bull Clothing ( Pty ) Ltd, offering the same products, at the same prices and therefore making the same margins. It is run by a management team from elected shareholders, elected annually. It is therefore a fully autonomous BEE company. Bull Workwear ( Pty ) Ltd makes garments to order but does not offer ex-stock deliveries. We have recently paid out our first dividend to all our shareholders. Our largest contract to date is to supply protective clothing to the Gautrain Rail Project, which we have done since 2005, when the project began, to date.
We currently manufacture around 60 000 garments per month, some available "off the shelf", while others are to customers specifications. We use SABS J54, 100% cottons, 65 / 35 poly cottons, 50 /50 poly cottons, acid and flame retardant fabrics, sourced both locally and abroard.
